The rules of Korean grammar and pronunciation can be very confusing and their grammatical structure is not the easiest to decipher. Fortunately, I have a few words of advice for those who are trying to write their resumes in Korean.First off, there are two main parts to a resume in Korean. You will need a cover letter and then you will need to write a resume. So, let's talk about what to write in your cover letter.A cover letter is simply a summary of your career goals, and how you intend to go about achieving them in the eon form. It is also a chance to explain what you are looking for in a company. You can use this letter to outline the job openings you are most qualified for. This also gives you an opportunity to talk about yourself and show some personality.Writing a resume in Korean is the same. You do not have to go over it, but it does need to be brief and to the point. It will s how that you have done your research and you are qualified for the position. A short paragraph will suffice for the eon portion and a longer one for the resume portion.As for how to write a resume in Korean, there are a few tricks that you can use. One thing you want to do is to start with a bullet list and then fill it in as you go. You should begin at the top and work your way down. Always keep the heading of the section that you are applying for straight on the page so that the reader knows what they are reading.Another trick when writing a resume in Korean is to use the English word 'please' in place of 'please.' You can easily translate that into Korean by saying 'please'kyeul.' Another thing you can do is use a word such as 'to' in place of 'for' to make your statement short and to the point. Do not make your sentences too long, because the reader will have trouble making heads or tails out of them.Last but not least, use kaomoji. Kaomoji is a pictograph of a face. This helps people to associate your name with your employment. Another great way to make use of kaomoji is to write a sentence or two in a foreign language like French or German.Those are my tips when writing a resume in Korean. It might take some time to get used to the language, but it will be worth it when you finally get that promotion you have been waiting for.

The Importance of Work Experience In recent years, having work experience in the field you are looking to enter has become increasingly invaluable. According to the Higher Education Statistics Agency, the total number of students entering higher education in the UK has increased by over 100,000 in the last 2 academic years alone, with the total in 2010/11 reaching over 2.5 million. Also in recent years, the number of first and upper second class degrees being awarded has increased. “The figures show that about one in six (53,215) of those graduating last summer was awarded a first. In 2006-07, 36,645 did so and in 2009-10, the number was 46,825.” (BBC News 2011). With increasing numbers of students gaining the higher degree classifications, standing out from their peers when applying for a job has become difficult. This is where work experience plays a major part. Does Work Experience Help? I can give you two examples in my own experience where I have seen how work experience can help you secure that dream job you’re looking for: A close friend of mine who I went to university with faced a dilemma during his placement year of his sandwich degree when he found out he failed the previous year and would not be allowed to return in final year. Instead of accepting this fact with defeat, he was pro-active and enrolled onto various IT qualifications such as Microsoft and Cisco to enhance his future employability. During these five months, he also took up various voluntary positions to further strengthen his chances of landing his dream job. Last week, he finally managed to turn his hard work into a fantastic result by securing a £65k-a-year job, working as a senior IT support engineer. He is also studying at the Open University to complete his degree. Another friend of mine was incredibly passionate about law and becoming a solicitor. Since graduating two years ago, she has been working tirelessly building the foundations of a successful career. She worked voluntarily for almost two years at a law firm, while also working as a part time waitress to fund herself. Last week, she found out she had been accepted into a law firm in Birmingham and her hard work over the last couple of years had paid off. It is clear to see in the two examples above how you have to go that extra mile to ensure you stand out from the crowd. Ultimately, you want the employer to be able to see your dedication and hard work. Desire Is Everything - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career The other day, I read a post that got me thinking about my own Personal Branding journey.   Drew McLellan of Drews Marketing Minute wrote about how Walt Disneys dreams lead to Disney World and challenged his readers: What do you want so badly that you’d ignore all the nay sayers, tune out all of negativity, keep getting up every time you get knocked down and when you close your eyes… you don’t see what might be, you see what WILL be? And… when are you going to start making it a reality? Thats really important for all of us who are intent on branding ourselves. Because personal branding isnt about setting yourself up to do something for which you dont have a lot of passion. Its about figuring out what your dream is and setting yourself up to achieve it. For me, I realized early on that all I ever wanted to do was work in innovation. And since there are a few companies working there, that meant I couldnt get into those companies without putting in extraordinary networking effort. So this introvert had to put down all the books she loved, and learn how to meet people and develop relationships. Easy or hard to put yourself out there To be honest, that was a really uncomfortable thing for me to do. To walk into a gathering of people I dont know, and to put myself out there to get to know them pure torture. (It still is.) But I do it because Im absolutely sure that I want my dreams more than I want to be comfortable at home reading my books. So, if youre branding yourself, you need to ask what you want enough to make yourself uncomfortable? What would you put yourself into a new situation for? What would you give up your free time for? What would you do for nothing if it would get you on the road to where you want to go? What is your unique vision for yourself? Personal Branding doesnt work if you want what everyone else does in life. It works best if you figure out what you strongly and uniquely want for yourself out of life. And because Personal Branding requires you to sacrifice your free time and go beyond your comfort zone it needs to be something that you really desire. Because there will be naysayers. And you will fair and have to pick yourself up again to start over. So if you dont view your ultimate goal as worth the discomfort, youll probably never be strong enough to achieve it. Small talk Being armed with some good icebreaker questions to ask can help you make a good first impression. It can also set the tone for the entire interview. Small talk gives you and the interviewer a chance to get to know each other a bit. It can ease tension or anxiety you may be feeling. In the bigger scheme of things, taking some time to break the ice is important, because it is a skill that is great to hone for day-to-day work and lifeâ€"regardless of your field or industry. If you can show that you are good at breaking the ice, the interviewer will be able to picture you doing the same as you relate to customers, colleagues, supervisors, vendorsâ€"anyone. Engage with good questions or comments There are some questions or statements that can get a conversation going. Here are a few that you might initiate: What is your position with the company? (If you don’t already know) How long have you been with the company? (If you don’t already know) Comments about the weather. Comments about your trip to the interview destination. For example, “What an easy and scenic drive! The directions were great!” Comments about the company site (if interviewed there). “I like the accessibility of parking around here,” or “I noted some enticing smells coming from the cafeteria.” If you are connected on Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook, use it to break the ice. “I see from your Tweets that you are a big jazz fan.” We all love to talk about subjects we’re  passionate about (But don’t bring it up if you hate jazz or know nothing about it!). Social media is a powerful resource for breaking the ice. Does the interviewer love fishing, record a favorite TV show, or have season tickets to a particular football team’s games? Don’t overdo it Stick with safe topics: sports, hobbies, the city and culture etc. Keep in mind that small talk should be briefâ€"two to three minutes tops. Don’t go overboard, particularly in praise. Talking about how you love the wall color will come off as desperate and shallow. Do respond to comments made by the interviewer. Particularly if it opens the door to common interests. If you went to the same school, know someone in common, or belong to a common association, this is excellent opportunity to bond. Do act interestedâ€"direct eye contact, a smile, leaning forward. Small talk is there to break the ice. Your body language speaks as clearly as what you say. Don’t bring up anything related to the job itself at this stage. Work hours, salary or even the fact that you know someone who works in the same companyâ€"are not icebreaker topics. Definitely avoid talking about past jobs or any related subject matter. Do feel comfortable bringing up job-related topics reflective of the interviewer, say garnered through LinkedIn or research on the company. If the interviewer has worked his / her way up through the company, it’s great show you noted this accomplishment, and tie it in to the favorable impression the company makes on you for valuing its people. Most of us do, because we are people who love stories movies, tv shows, books, gossip, family lore, and all the rest of the ways one can tell a narrative. Even jokes are stories, if you think about it! I dont know the fancy reasons why this is so, but it probably has something to do with being able to identify with the story teller or a character in the story. This love of story plays out in your career in several ways: Your brand  is a synopsis of your story; a general overview of who you are Your references are anecdotes of your story; testimonials from people with memories about you Your resume is a capsulation of the highlights of your career story; the highlights that affect a potential job opening Its a good idea to remember that people usually will think in terms of story. That person interviewing you has sifted through a lot of resumes to choose the best character to introduce in their next chapter. They will try to figure out if your story, who you are, and how you will fit into the ongoing narrative of their enterprise. When you sent that thank you letter after the interview, you remind them of that story. Not all story is going to be profitable for your career gossip, backbiting, etc. are not things you want people to remember about you. The way you act and speak today will become the story people remember about you tomorrow. You can change parts of the story they remember by apologies and reforming, but it is really better when you realize that the narrative of your career and life is being written by you every day.
